Scholarships And Other Awards Presented At Commencement Exercises

An impressive list of scholarships and special awards for graduating seniors of Kingfisher highschool has been released by school officials.

Presentations being made at commencement this Thursday night include the following: OU scholastic scholarship for valedictorian to Robert Taylor (also, a Readers Digest award, which included a years subscription). A & M scholarship presented by Helping Hand home demonstration club to Mary Ann Francis. A & M Bennett Memorial scholarship for FFA student to Jim Davis. A Central State scholarship to Jimmie Edwards. An A & M scholarship presented by Kingfisher Valley home demonstration club to Richard Danne.

Other scholarships awarded local seniors include two at Phillips University, Enid, to Willa Jo Hawkins and Roy McNaught Jr. John Sain has been awarded a football scholarship at Oklahoma University.

Special Awards:

C. A. Phillips presented the American Legion award this year to Bill Gooden, while the Legion auxiliary award to Mary Lou Hamby was presented by Mrs. Letha Ludwig.

The Ralph Enix FFA scholarship-trophy award this year went to Bill Maxon. Selection for this award is made by the faculty on the basis of all-around ability in scholarship, cooperation and leadership during the FFA student's highschool years.

A special award of appreciation is being presented by C. A. Phillips, for the American Legion, to Roy McNaught Jr. and Richard Danne, for services rendered at military funerals here -- McNaught for a period of eight consecutive years and Danne for two years. National FFA Foundation awards were presented four Kingfisher highschool FFA boys at senior class day exercises Wednesday. The awards, presented by Tom Keller, county judge, went to Emmitt Branson, for soil conservation; Dale Wendt, for public speaking, and Fred Walta, as chapter star farmer.

Seniors With Perfect Attendance Listed:

Three seniors were given one-year perfect attendance certificates at senior class day exercises Wednesday, and 11 others were awarded one-semester perfect attendance awards.

Those receiving one-year awards were James Burns, Dena Meier, and David Hunt. One- semester awards went to Bill Gooden, Edward Koonce, Bill Maxon, Bill Miller, Roy McNaught Jr., John Sain, Robert Taylor, Vernon Walker, Norma Campbell, Richard Danne and Marilyn High.

20 Seniors Listed On Local Honor Roll

Kingfisher high school honor roll for the school year ending this week includes 20 seniors. To be included, the students must have a "B" or better average, and no grade lower than a "C".

The 20 seniors are Bill Davidson, Jimmie Edwards, Robert Taylor, Willa Jo Hawkins, Richard Danne, Bill Gooden, Roy McNaught Jr., Norma Jean Campbell, Mary Ann Francis, Mary Lou Hamby, Marilyn High, Lanora Williams, Earl Bengs, Bill Maxon, Billy Joe Miller, James Davis, Edward Koonce, David Van De Wege, Vernon Walker, and Jane Kuntz.

Lower classmen on the roll were not available at this time and will be listed in a later issue.

State And National Honor Societies' Members Announced

Local members of state and national honor societies for the school year 1951-1952 have been announced by Loren L. Johnson, highschool principal.

The State Honor society roll includes the top 10 percent in highschool for the school year. Seniors on the roll include Robert Taylor, Bill Gooden, Willa Jo Hawkins, Bill Davidson, Jimmie Edwards, and Mary Ann Francis. Juniors are Jo Ann Hodson, Richard Dulany, Kay Cochran, and Roberta Markus. Sophomores include Joyce Kay Hill, Roberta Christian, Gladys Gilmour, and Mona McLarty.

National Society Members

The National Honor society is open to juniors and seniors only. Local students in the society this year are Bill Davidson, Jimmie Edwards, Bill Gooden, Willa Jo Hawkins, Robert Taylor (all seniors), and juniors Kay Ann Cochran and Jo Ann Hodson.
